9th annual William James Foundation Sustainable Business Plan Competition finalist presentations and gathering

The William James Foundation is hosting the 9th annual Sustainable Business Plan Competition finalist presentations and gathering on Friday April 13th and Saturday, April 14th at the World Resources Institute in Washington, DC. Individuals interested in starting, managing, advising, or investing in multiple-bottom-line businesses should attend.

The event will feature presentations by more than two dozen sustainable entrepreneurs from around the world, including some who will have come from Mali, Mozambique, Kenya, and Cambodia to present in person.

Friday’s activities start at 5pm, and will feature a keynote from Kirsty Jenkinson, Director of the Markets and Enterprise Program at the World Resources Institute, followed by presentations from entrepreneurs from Day One Response, Malo Traders, Mozambikes.

Saturday’s activities start at 10am, and will feature discussions led on Community Development and Wealth Building by Wayne Curtis, Managing Partner at Curtis Concepts, who has worked on more than $1.5 billion in small business lending initiatives, and on building an environmental company by Aaron Lamstein, founder of WorldWise, which sold over 100,000 environmentally responsible consumer products per day through 30,000 retail stores via most major retail channels. There will also be a workshop on pitching to investors and presentations by LuminAID Lab, Takamotobiogas, and Snack Packers.

Together, the entrepreneurs presenting are competing to divide $20,000 in cash and more than $100,000 worth of professional services. These professional services come from noted sustainability professionals, including Worldways Social Marketing, Strategic Sustainability Consulting, CitySoft, CSRwire, Social Enterprise Associates, HIP Investor, Swakin & Turner, and many other firms.
