About Chhavi
Chhavi is Project Manager – Capacity Building at EMBARQ India. She works on developing capacity building strategies for the organization, leveraging EMBARQ’s strengths and in-house research expertise for designing, delivering and evaluating training initiatives and other knowledge outreach activities, eventually tying them in with the national capacity building initiative of the Ministry of Urban Development of the Government of India. She also leads research activities in a variety of topics related to urban transport like vehicle sharing, mobility planning and institutional analyses for urban transport. Chhavi also helps coordinate, capacity building, knowledge sharing and research collaboration efforts across the EMBARQ network, as well as between EMBARQ and international development agencies.
Prior to EMBARQ, Chhavi worked as a senior technical expert and trainer with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ’s) Sustainable Urban Transport Project (SUTP), where she trained government officials, provided policy advisory services to cities, and contributed actively to GIZ’s publications on transport and mobility. Prior to GIZ, Chhavi was a part of The Energy and Resources Institute’s (TERI) research team on urban transport and infrastructure, where she led multi-disciplinary research work on sustainable cities, and clean transport and energy access for the urban poor in India.
Chhavi has been co-authoring and contributing to reports and documents like the Training Module on Urban Transport Institutions in India for the UNDP and Ministry of Urban Development (ongoing), Summary of the Grand Design for Urban Transportation in Indonesia (Ministry of Transportation, Directorate General of Land Transportation and Directorate of Urban Transport System, Indonesia, 2011); UNEP’s Green Economy Report (TRL, 2011); Sustainability Reporting on the Status of Urban Transport in India (United Nations Commission for Sustainable Development, 2010); the draft National Road Safety Action Plan (Sundar Committee, 2006); and the Transport chapter of the State Development Report of Arunachal Pradesh (Planning Commission, 2005).
Chhavi holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Pune, India, and a Master’s Degree in Transportation Engineering from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. Chhavi has also been trained in transportation economics, and is a certified trainer in the Train-X methodology used in developing and delivering training programs.
Chhavi is a classical Indian dancer and enjoys listening to audio-books. She is fond of travelling to new destinations and every now and then enjoys taking on trips of a more spiritual/self-healing nature.
