Clean electricity produced by the power of the wind and the sun is key to efforts to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that are causing climate change. Accordingly, wind power and solar power are being deployed at increasing rates around the world. At the same time, the costs of technologies such as wind turbines, solar photovoltaic panels, and concentrating solar thermal facilities are falling. With the right policies in place, these trends can be sustained and accelerated.
National, regional, and local policy decisions are crucial drivers of solar and wind power deployment and innovation. WRI provides resources to help policy makers, businesses, and other key groups identify the right mix of energy policies and incentives to maximize the benefits of these technologies: reliable clean energy, reduced health impacts, greater energy security, job creation, and enhanced competitiveness.
