![]() Map Projection Geographic Map Description This map shows the nine countries that participated in the pilot phase of The Access Initiative (TAI) beginning in 2000: Chile, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa, Thailand, Uganda, and the United States. The Access Initiative is currently expanding beyond these original partner countries to new partners on each continent. The Access Initiative is a global coalition of public interest groups collaborating to promote national-level implementation of commitments to access to information, participation, and justice in environmental decision-making. Improved public access produces decisions on broad policies and specific projects that are more effective, legitimate, and just. TAI works towards its goal by conducting national assessments of access to decision-making affecting the environment, and by using the results to make recommendations for policy change. The Access Initiative is led by a Core Team composed of the Advocates Coaltion for Development and Environment (Uganda), Corporacion Participa (Chile), the Environmental Management and Law Association (Hungary), the Thailand Environment Institute (Thailand), and the World Resources Institute (United States). The Core Team relies on input and support from a broad consituency of NGOs, governments, and regional and global intergovernmental organizations. |
