WHAT: For the seventh straight year, Jonathan Lash, president of the World Resources Institute, will hold a briefing for journalists to preview key environmental issues to watch this year.

EMBARQ – The World Resources Institute Center for Sustainable Transport is one of six organizations awarded a total of $125 million by Michael Bloomberg to implement programs in low- and middle-income countries to prevent death and disability from road traffic crashes. This is the largest single donation ever for international road safety.

EMBARQ - the World Resources Institute Center for Sustainable Transport - today receives the 2009 Roy Family Award for Environmental Partnership from Harvard University for its work in establishing Mexico City’s Metrobus, a sustainable transit project in one of the world’s most populated and congested cities.

WHAT:

Experts from the World Resources Institute (WRI) will participate in four panel discussions during the World Bank Group (WBG) and International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) annual meeting in Istanbul, Turkey.

The panel discussions are part of the Civil Society Policy Forum, which will bring together bank staff, civil society representatives, government officials and academics to discuss important topics, such as integrating human rights into WBG operations; financing climate change adaptation in developing countries; financing forest conservation to combat global warming; and transforming transportation in cities. WRI experts appearing on these panels will be available for interviews.

WHAT:

The Center for Sustainable Transport in Brazil (CTS-Brasil), a member of the World Resources Institute’s EMBARQ Network, the National Confederation of Transport, and the British Embassy will host the 2009 Brazil National Summit on Transport and the Environment. About 60 representatives from government, the private sector and the public will attend the one-day event focusing on policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions from the urban transport sector in Brazil.
