COP-12 logoThe twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-12) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is November 6-17 in Nairobi, Kenya. This is the annual international meeting to assess the progress of global efforts to address climate change.

The Conference of the Parties has been meeting each year since the UNFCCC--an international treaty to combat global warming--entered into force in 1994. The Kyoto Protocol, which provides for legally-binding reductions of greenhouse gas emissions for most industrialized nations by 2012, was adopted at COP-3, but did not enter into force until Febuary, 2005. This conference will also be the second meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (MOP-2).
