Ask EarthTrends: Does EarthTrends include data on future projections? Where can I find such data?

The EarthTrends searchable database currently includes a limited number of population and demographic indicators that forecast data up to 2050 (see below). These data are produced by the United Nations Population Division.

Since most of our data providers do not incorporate projections into their datasets, our database is limited in this regard. Future estimates are occasionally included in special reports or datasets; for example, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has produced a report that projects meat and dairy production and consumption to 2010. Energy data also frequently includes forecasts. The Energy Information Administration in the United States is an example of one national government agency which has produced reports of anticipated energy production and use (see their Annual Energy Outlook for the US and International Energy Outlook publications). Websites of other national governments are likely sources of similar energy information. It is important to keep in mind, however, that the availability, estimation methodology, and data reliability of projections can vary substantially between different economic, social, and environmental indicators.
